If you have not been following us on Facebook, I wanted to let you know we got accepted into the Guilford Craft Expo!! This is a juried show, so that means we had to enter an application and a portfolio of five images to be judged by a committee in order to be allowed into the show. First of all, let me tell you how hard it was to pick only five of the things I do! I struggled with this for over a week and finally just bit the bullet and hoped for the best. Several months later I received a letter in my mailbox telling me I was accepted. WOO HOO! My next thought was “HOLY CRAP, I have to get my act in gear and start building.”
When I received my acceptance letter, I already had the chessboard in the works (see "IN THE STUDIO"), and I really had no idea how long this would take me. I also had a commission to build eight dining room chairs. I then contracted the flu, and that put the breaks on my plans for spending time in the studio. Once I was back in good health, I finished the chessboard and presented it to my nephews. It was a big hit, but I suspected they liked the tour of my workshop more than the chessboard!
With the chessboard completed, my apprentice and I had our work cut out for us. We completed the dining room chairs and then proceeded to create pieces for the Guilford Craft Expo. These are pieces no one has seen to date. Make sure you come to the Guilford Craft Expo this coming weekend to see all the crazy stuff we’ve been up to!
